Babies Can Sign Too

One of the scariest parts of bringing home a new baby is that we, as adults, must guess what each new cry means. The whining cry, the frustrated cry, the blood curdling hungry cry and every cry in between all sound the same when a parent is running on empty. The result is frustration for both the baby and the parents.
What if there were a way to communicate with your baby before he or she were able to speak?

Fortunately, there is; it is called Baby Sign Language and although not widely adopted, it has been around for years, and those who have used it are quick to say how rewarding the practice is.

The muscles in an infant's hands develop long before he or she can speak, and they already have a vocabulary or basic instructions with which they use to communicate. Most babies naturally do things such as pointing, or making a grabbing gesture. Read more

Every new baby will receive many, many gifts.  Some are practical, some many only last a few months, and some may fall by the wayside as the baby grows, but there are always a few  sentimental gifts that will be kept and cherished for their lifetime.  Giving a personalized baby gift is a great way to show that you care, and a personalized gift is likely to carry meaning for years to come.  Many parents hand these gifts to their children as they pass into adulthood or have children of their own, and they become part of the family heirloom.

Light the Way for a New Baby

safe nightlights for childrenNightlights are a great gift for new parents.  Regular trips to the kitchen, the bathroom, and the baby's room throughout the night are a way of life for several months, and stumbling around through the darkness in the early hours of the morning can result in many a stubbed toe, or worse.  Leaving a bright lamp or ceiling light on is not only a waste of electricity, but also unlikely to let either the parents or child find any kind of sleeping routine.  Night lights create a soft glow to safely guide new parents around a dark house, and have also been shown to have a comforting effect on infants.

One problem with most plug-in variety of night lights is that you are limited to where they can be used.  Battery powered LED nightlights are great because they are completely portable, so they can be placed wherever they are needed most.  They can also be picked up and carried to light the way during any late night Read more

A Six Generation Tradition

Every family has their traditions and some have lasted for as long as anyone can remember. We all have holiday and new born in the family traditions. Larger families are even familiar with the hand me down tradition but how often do you hear about hand me downs lasting 148 years? Normally you wouldn't think any type of clothing would last that long and be in well enough shape for any one to wear, let alone even recognize what it once may have been after being passed down through even a couple children in the family.

In Michigan there is an article of clothing that has made it over the years and still gets to be passed down. It has become a family tradition that doesn't seem to have a worry about future generations getting to take their part in it either. For every Rewalt generation of  babies born into this family, the guardian of the christening gown gets it down from storage and carefully packages one of the two very old but well used tradition to have it taken to or sent via UPS with the tracking option purchased.

The family has two cherished heirloom christening gowns.

Baby Gifts Worth Spending Money On

Baby showers are a great way to help any new mom get off to a good start at welcoming their bundle of joy to the world. Classic baby gifts like onsies, rattles, blankets and stuffed animals are sweet and thoughtful but can leave the soon to be mom unprepared. Instead of the classics that everyone else always seems to show up with, try to think of things that could be needed at the most inconvenient times like in the middle of the night or the wee hours of the morning before even coffee shops are open.

For about $50 you can get mom and baby a bulk supply of diapers and wipes from Costco or bulk stores of the like. While you're there, why not pick them up their own membership so they can also have the ease of the bulk baby products. Having the ability to buy in bulk will reduce the amount of hectic trips to the store on limited sleep for the basics.

Another group of items that soon to be moms are grateful for and most will make a habit to always keep on hand at all times is infant medicines.

The person who runs it posted some great photos of cards, blankets, and a bib that could be made by hand. The items are classy and practical. Any mom would be happy with a homemade gift like this.

And if you're tired of the going to same old baby shower over and over again, consider this Danish tradition. I wish I had told my sister about it before I threw her one.
